Learning and development

When events alter the equilibrium and belief system of family members, misunderstandings, confusion and emotional upset often follow. This is particularly true when children encounter learning obstacles that cause them to struggle at school. Struggling with learning lowers self esteem and builds negative emotions and frustration. While schools are increasingly aware of and able to respond to more testing learning requirements, parents may be less well equipped with the emotional and practical skills that will help their children to flourish.

Once a learning challenge has been identified, we are available to support parents and specialist staff by:

  • Acknowledging and managing complex emotional responses
  • Helping parents build children’s self esteem and develop positive strategies for improving outcomes and behaviour
  • Identification of appropriate expert support
  • Building open communication and trust
